MY FIRST SERVICE TRIP TO INDONESIA (and my last trip as a participant) was an unEXPECTED treasure trove of gifts. The spiritual energy in Bali conjured profound divine curiosity -uncorrupted by my thoughts on social organized religion. I met a friend-of-a-friend in denpasar -on a motorcycle -at midnight - at the airport -with 2 suitcases in tow, who became one of my most beloved teachers and a dear, dear friend. And while it was really my only bad volunteer EXPERIENCE, I learned more about being a leader and nurturing a team of strangers into a family than I ever could have imagined.
